Is there caffeine in the Espresso Energy Nut Butter?
Technically yes (as we only use real ingredients), but not at an amount that you’re likely to notice.
For caffeine to have a positive effect on exercise, you need a dose of about 3mg per kilogram of body mass. At rest, an 80mg dose will have a mildly positive effect on cognitive function for most people. With 4% of our recipe containing coffee beans, our recipe would not get close to an 80mg dose.
Note that most sports supplements (e.g. energy gels or hydration drinks and powders) use roughly 30-40mg of caffeine per serve.
Can I use Energy Nut Butter for racing?
As a race food, Energy Nut Butter is best consumed during longer events completed at lower intensity. With 160 calories per packet it’s super energy-dense, and perfect for pockets and packs where space and weight are at a premium.
For tips on race day fuelling, check out our practical guide here.

Is Energy Nut Butter suitable for a ketogenic or Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) diet?
Both the Ketogenic and LCHF (Low-Carb, High Fat) diet use the restriction of carbohydrates to alter your metabolic state to the point where your primary energy source is fueled by fat. This state of ketosis can have performance benefits for endurance athletes. Check out our co-founder, Andrius’s, deep dive here.
Due to its high fat, and low carb content, Energy Nut Butter is an ideal natural fuel for those following these diets.

Energy during exercise is provided from carbohydrate (mostly muscle glycogen) and fat.
Exercise sessions completed at higher exercise intensity is primarily fuelled by oxidation of carbohydrates (muscle and liver glycogen).
However, during light to moderate intensity exercise (including prolonged endurance exercise), energy contribution from fat is much higher. Read more here.
Our product is suitable for people that follow low-carb high-fat (LCHF) or ketogenic diet because of the low carbohydrate content in each packet (<5 grams of carbohydrate). Read more here.
